Torres del Paine, Chile

Sunrise on the Cumbre Principal del Paine (the "peaks?"). The cumbres don't receive as much press,
but they're still pretty darn amazing. We struck out early on the third morning to hike into the Valle Frances.
Michael and Amy pause for a moment in the sun.
Ashley relaxes on top of rock tarn. Don't get confused...that "tower" in the distance is yet another mountain (the "Catedral").
During the night and all through the morning we heard tremendous crashes that sounded like thunder. Turns out they were sounds of ice breaking off
the the mountain and avalanching down to the valley below. The ice melts and refreezes into the Glacier Frances.
Back at camp Michael and Ashley chat about science. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank a
certain Mr. Willis, who gifted me the camp chair seen at left, which was ultra-comfy and was
admired by eveyone on the trip.
Sunset at Lago Pehoe, next to our 3rd campsite.
