Torres del Paine, Chile

Here the intrepid hikers are all smiles as we set out on our first day of hiking. We were very excited to see blue sky (we were expecting similar conditions as on the boat). You can see the peaks of the Torres del Paine (the "towers") in the background.

Our first day lead us up the valley leading to the Torres lookout. Amy pauses here for a quick picture.

After dropping our packs at Campamento Torres, we climbing (or should I say scrambled?) the last final 45-minute path to the lookout.

(Words cannot describe.)

Our second day in the park was substantially less interesting: a long walk over hilly grasslands. We did get to see a lot of Mt. Altimarante Nieto.

Our lunch spot near Rio del Arriero looking at Lago Nordenskjold (presumably not a native--most everything around the torres is named for old European explorers/mountain climbers).

Our first look at the Cuernos del Paine (the "horns").

Another look at at Lago Nordenskjold.

This is evidence of my claim that virtually all the small brush and shrubs were sharp. It's a good idea to look before you sit anywhere.

More horns. We're getting closer...
